Information: Captain Francis H. Barton, 2nd Gurkha Rifles, who was killed in action, was the son of the late Mr. James Barton, of Farndreg, Dundalk. He obtained his commission in the Irish Rifles in 1901, and was gazetted two years later to the Indian Army, he served in the South African War, taking part in the operations in the Transvaal and in the Orange River Colony. He was mentioned in despatches, and received the Queen's Medal with three clasps and the King's Medal with two clasps.
