Information: Captain the Hon. Charles Henry Stanley Monck, 3rd Battalion Coldstream Guards, who was killed in action on the 21st October, 1914. Captain Monck, who was born on the 9th November, 1876, was the elder and only surviving son of Viscount Monck, of Charleville, Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow. He was educated at Eton, and received his commission in the Coldstream Guards in May, 1897, becoming Lieutenant in November, 1898, and Captain in November, 1903. During the South African War he saw much service, being present at the engagements at Paardeberg, Poplar Grove and elsewhere, receiving the Queen's Medal with seven clasps and the King's Medal with two clasps. Captain Monck married in 1904 Mary Florence, daughter of Sir William Wyndham Portal Bart., and leaves a son and two daughters.
