            Information: Brevet-Major Edward Martin Panter-Downes, who has been killed in action, entered the Army as Second Lieutenant on the 10th October, 1894, being promoted Lieutenant in September, 1897, and obtaining his Captaincy in 1901. He served in the South African War from 1899 to 1902 on the Staff. He took part in the operations in the Orange Free State, Transvaal, east of Pretoria, including actions at Belfast, and in various other actions for which he was mentioned in despatches and made Brevet-Major. He received the Queen's Medal with three clasps and the King's Medal with two clasps.
