Information: Second Lieutenant John Sturgess Eldred, Royal Irish Rifles, who died of wounds in hospital at Boulogne. He was gazetted to the Leinster Regiment in August on joining the Army, but owing to the Rifles being short of officers, through numerous casualties, he was attached to them and was serving with them when he was mortally wounded. He was the second son of Fleet Paymaster Edward N. Eldred, late of H.M.S. Hogue, and grandson of Mr. Edward Eldred, of the Gables, Petersfield, Hants, and of the late Commander Richard Sturgess.
