Information: Major Baptist Johnston Barton D.S.O., Duke of Wellingon's Regiment, joined the Duke of Wellington's Regiment, from Sandhurst, in 1896, and retired in 1911. On the outbreak of war he rejoined the 2nd Battalion, and was present at the battles of the Marne and Aisne, the fighting near La Bassée and Festubert, and the first battle of Ypres. He was wounded, mentioned in despatches, and awarded the D.S.O. He also served with the 2nd Battalion during the months of March, April and May, in the fighting near Ypres, including the taking of Hill 60. He was again mentioned in despatches and promoted Major in the Reserve of Officers. He is the eldest son of the late Colonel Baptist Johnston Barton, D.L., A.D.C., of Portsalon, County Donegal.
