Information: Captain Claude Alexander French, 2nd Batt. Royal Irish Regiment, who died on May 8th, from wounds received in action in France, was the second son of Mr. John A. French, St. Ann's, Donnybrook, Dublin. He was educated at Mr. Strangways and Shrewsbury School and Trinity College, Dublin. He served in the South African War and gained the King's Medal with three clasps. He went to Flanders in September, 1914, and was wounded in October at Le Pilley, but rejoined and again went to the front on January 12th, and on May 8th was seriously wounded by shell and succumbed shortly afterwards in the Australian Hospital at Wimereux.
