Information: Major Richard Digby Johnson, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, joined the Militia Battalion (now the 3rd Special Reserve) in 1900 and served in the 11th Mounted Infantry through the South African War, receiving the Queen's Medal with four clasps. He was wounded on April 25th, during the fighting near Ypres, but returned again to the front on May 10th and was killed in action a fortnight later, on May 24th, in Flanders. Major Johnson's name has since been mentioned in despatches, dated May 31st, and published on June 23rd. He was the younger son of the late Mr. E. M. Johnson, of St. Mary's, York, and leaves a widow, Mrs. Claudine Johnson, Camoys, Braintree, Essex, and two children, surviving.
