Information: Captain William Reginald Frend, 2nd Battalion, Sherwood Foresters. Entered the service in 1898, was made Lieutenant in 1900 and Captain in September, 1904. He served in the South African War, taking part in the operations in the Orange Free State, including the actions at Houtnek, Vet River and Zand River, also in the Transvaal and Cape Colony, South of the Orange River and was again fighting in the Transvaal in the summer of 1901 and the spring of 1902. He obtained the Queen's Medal with three clasps and the King's Medal with two. He was appointed Adjutant of his Regiment in December, 1912.
