Information: Lieut. Col. St. John Augustus Cox, Royal Irish Regiment, entered the service in November, 1889, was gazetted Lieutenant in 1891, Captain 1898, obtained his Majority in July, 1898, his promotion as Lieutenant-Colonel being gazetted in February, 1913. He served through the South African war and took part in many important operations, including the actions near Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Diamond Hill in June, 1900, and later the same year near Pretoria and at Belfast. He obtained the Queen's Medal with six clasps He has been mentioned in Sir John French's despatches.
