Information: Captain Sylvester Cecil Rait Kerr, R.F.A., was the second son of Sylvester Rait Kerr. He was born at Rathmoyle, Edenderry, King's County, on October 14th, 1887, and was educated at Arnold House, Llanddulas; Rugby School, and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. He was gazetted Second Lieutenant on December 18th, 1907; First Lieutenant on December 18th, 1910, and Captain on November 4th, 1914. Most of his service was spent abroad. He was home on leave from India when war broke out and went to the front in “G” Battery R.H.A. in November, 1914, and was afterwards transferred to 41st Battery, 42nd Brigade R.F.A. In April, 1915, he was given command of a trench Howitzer Battery and fell near La Brique, north of Ypres, on May 13th, shot by a German sniper. He is said to have done splendid work with his battery.
