Information: Major Giles Rooke, 10th Gurkha Rifles, who was killed in action on May 9th, had served during the winter with the 3rd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles in Dublin, commanding B Company. He was ordered from Dublin to France several months ago and was wounded shortly after his arrival. He was born on June 16th, 1874, joined the service as Second Lieutenant in August, 1893, became Captain of the 10th Gurkha Rifles in August, 1902, and was promoted to the rank of Major in August, 1911. He was a son of Major-General Rooke, Ellerslie, Ryde.
