Information: Major W. H. Nichols, 8th Batt. Somerset Light Infantry, of Kilbrack, Doneraile, Co. Cork, was wounded in the attack on Hill 70 on September 26th, and died of his wounds on October 15th, at Munich. He was born in Dunedin, New Zealand, and educated at Christ's College, Christchurch, New Zealand, and Jesus College, Cambridge, where he played in the College Rugby team and rowed in the College 1st boat and won his oar. He went to South Africa with the North Cork Militia. He was secretary to the Duhallow Hounds before the outbreak of the present war, but immediately offered his services and was gazetted to the 8th Somerset Light Infantry.
