Information: Captain John Griffiths, 12th Batt. Royal Irish Rifles, was killed in action whilst leading his company in the battle of the Somme on July 1st. Capt. Griffiths was a graduate of the University of Wales, and On the outbreak of the war was Science Master in the Grammar School, Larne. He was a leading member of the Ulster Volunteers, and on entering the Army in January, 1915, joined the Ulster Division and obtained his commission in the 12th Royal Irish Rifles, where his soldierly ability gained him rapid promotion.
