Information: Lieutenant Francis Stuart Verschoyle, Royal Engineers, youngest son of Mr. W.H.F. and Mrs. Frances Verschoyle, of Woodley, Dundrum, County Dublin, was born 9th April, 1896; educated at Castle Park, Dalkey, and Marlborough College. Leaving the latter at the end of the summer term, 1914, he entered Trinity College, Dublin. He left Chatham for France on the 13th December, 1914, and was killed in action on Sunday night, 25th April, near Ypres, defending a trench, with only four others, against overwhelming odds. His C.O. wrote from the battlefield, that “he behaved like a soldier, did his duty well, and fought to the end”.
