Information: Lieutenant Colonel Francis G. Jones, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, who died of wounds received in action, was 51 years of age and had seen service in India and Africa. He took part in the operations in Northern China Hills, being awarded a Medal and clasp, and also served in the operations on N.W. Frontier of India in 1897-8. He went through the South African War, taking part in the relief of Ladysmith and the actions at Colenso and Spion Kop, also in the operations on Tugela Heights. For his services in the South African War Colonel Jones was mentioned in despatches and was awarded the Queen's Medal with three clasps.
Additional information: Son of the Rev. Edward G. and Eliza W. Jones, of Cecilstown Lodge, Mallow, Co. Cork. Awarded Indian G.S. Medal (Chin Hills, 1892-93). Medal for Tirah Campaign (2 clasps "Tirah" 1897-82nd "Punjab Frontier" 1897-8); and Queen's South African Medal, with 3 clasps, (Brevet Major, twice Mentioned in Despatches).
