Information: Captain Arthur Moore O'Sullivan, 1st Royal Irish Rifles, who was killed in action in France on May 9th, was the only son of the late Mr. Patrick O'Sullivan, Advocate-General, Madras Presidency, and Mrs. O'Sullivan, Auburn, Greystones, Co. Wicklow. He was born in 1878 in Ootacamund, India, and was educated at Bedford Grammar School and Hertford College, Oxford. He enlisted in 1900 in the Oxfordshire Light Infantry and served in the South African War, receiving the Queen's Medal with four clasps. He obtained a commission in the Royal Irish Rifles in 1902, was promoted lieutenant in 1906, captain in 1910, and was adjutant of his regiment in 1910-12. In 1905-7 he was seconded for service with the Northern Nigerian regiment of the West African Frontier Force. Captain O'Sullivan went to the front with his regiment in November, 1914, and was wounded at Neuve Chapelle and mentioned in despatches.
