Information: Lieutenant J. F. Ruttledge, eldest son of Lieutenant-Colonel A. Ruttledge, of The Woodlands, Castleconnell, was gazetted on 24th February, 1914, to his father's old regiment, the 2nd Batt. Prince of Wales's Own (West Yorkshire) Regiment. He was awarded the Military Cross for great coolness and gallantry near Neuve Chapelle on December 19th, 1914, for rescuing, under very heavy machine and rifle fire, wounded men lying in the open on no man's land.
