Information: Major William Fortescue Colborne Garstin, 5th Batt. Royal Irish Fusiliers, was killed in action at the Dardanelles between the 7th and 10th August last. Major Garstin was born at Glasthule House, Kingstown, in 1875, and was the only son of Mr. John R. Garstin, D.L., Braganstown, Co. Louth. Major Garstin took part in the South African War with the 2nd Batt., obtaining the Queen's Medal with two clasps. The Garstin family, which has been associated with the Co. Louth since the 17th century, has a long and distinguished military record.
