Information: Captain Bertram Walter Bourke, 5th Royal Dublin Fusiliers, was killed in action near Ypres on May 9th, 1915, while gallantly leading his men. Captain Bourke was in his 33rd year, and had served with the Royal Engineers (Militia), from which he exchanged into the 5th Batt. Royal Dublin Fusiliers in 1904, and received his Captaincy in 1908. He left for the front on May 2nd, and was attached to the 2nd Batt. R.D.F. Captain Bourke married, in 1913, Eileen, daughter of Mr. G. Neville Ussher, Carlow. He was a son of the late Major William H. Bourke, Connaught Rangers, Heathfield, Ballina, Co. Mayo.
