Information: Captain William George Massy Eagar, 1st Batt. Royal Munster Fusiliers, was killed in action at the Dardanelles on August 21st last, in his 23rd year, whilst gallantly leading his company. His commanding officer bears a high tribute to his courage and gallantry. Although hit through the shoulder he bravely carried on, leading and encouraging his men, and fell mortally hit afterwards. The few survivors left of his company declare that Captain Eagar was “absolutely magnificent”. Captain Eagar was educated at St. Columba's College and obtained his commission in the 3rd Munsters in 1909. In 1913 he was appointed Assistant Conservator, Forest Department, at Siam, where he was when war was declared, but returned home immediately, obtained his Captaincy in March, 1915.
