Information: Captain John Francis Martyr, 1st Batt. Royal Irish Rifles, has died of wounds received in action at the Dardanelles on August 11th last. Capt. Martyr was attached to the 6th Batt. Royal Irish Rifles at the time of his death. He had served in the South African War in 1901 and 1902, where he was employed with the Mounted Infantry, and obtained for his valuable services the Queen's Medal with five clasps. He was the elder son of the late Mr. Peter Martyr and Mrs. Martyr, “Hillside”, Fleet, Hants, and husband of Mrs. Violet Martyr, Bray, Co. Wicklow.
