Information: Second Lieutenant Thomas Alexander David Deane, Royal Marine Light Infantry, was killed in action on May 3rd last at the Dardanelles (Gaba Tepe), whilst ascending a hill with others of his (Portsmouth) battalion going to the assistance of the Australians. Lieut. Deane was the only son of Sir Thomas Manly and Lady Deane, of Ailesbury Park, Dublin, and was in his 22nd year. He was educated at Mr. Bookey's School, Aravon, Bray, and at Trent College, Derbyshire, afterwards entering Trinity College, Dublin, where he belonged to the Officers' Training Corps. He received his commission in September, 1914, and left England to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on February 27 last.
