Information: Lieutenant William Major Gilliland, 1st Batt. Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, who was killed in action at the Dardanelles on April 25th, 1915, was the only son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gilliland, of Eschol, Londonderry, and was only in his 21st year. He was educated at Baymount School, Dollymount, Dublin, and Shrewsbury, from whence he passed direct into the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, in January, 1913, and was gazetted to the 2nd Battalion of his Territorial Regiment, the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He was wounded at the battle of Le Cateau on August 26th, 1914, and on his recovery joined the 1st Battalion at Rugby on its return from India, and was with them in the landing at Gallipoli in April last.
