Information: Mr. Walter D. Appleyard, was the third son of the late Mr. William Appleyard, Representative Church Body, and Mrs. Appleyard, Sandford. He was educated at the High School, Dublin, and on leaving school entered the Civil Service. He was on the staff of the Irish Land Commission, but when war broke out he joined the “Pals” and left with them for the Dardanelles in July. He was with them in the landing at Suvla Bay and the fierce fighting of the following week, but fell on August 16th. His brother, Mr. George Appleyard, is serving with the Cadet Corps, 7th Batt. Leinster Regiment.
