Information: Lieutenant Spenser Robert Valentine Travers, 7th Batt. Royal Munster Fusiliers, who was killed in action at the Dardanelles, is the third of his name to give his life in the service of his country. There are sixteen members of his family in the fighting line, his brother, Lieut. A. S. Travers, being in the 7th Munsters. On the day he met his death Lieut. Travers had kept his gun working on a communication trench all day though under a hot fire the whole time, but at the close of the day he was hit and died soon afterwards. His General and brother-officers in their letters to his relatives speak highly of Lieut. Travers' bravery and devotion to duty. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Travers, Mill Cove, Rosscarbery, Co. Cork.
