Information: Lieutenant John Cornick Hawkes, M.D., R.A.M.C., was killed in action in France on July 31st, 1915. Dr. Hawkes qualified at Edinburgh University and was practising at Nottingham when he joined the Army. Dr. Hawkes was the second son of Mr. William Hawkes, Manager Munster and Leinster Bank, Castletown-Berehaven, Co. Cork. Dr. Hawkes was much beloved in his regiment for his skill and devotion in attending to his wounded comrades. He was killed instantaneously by a shell.
