Information: Capt. John Rupert Frederick Lecky, 7th Batt. R. Fusiliers (Special Reserve), who was killed in action in the Persian Gulf operations, was the only son of Mrs. Rupert Lecky and the late Mr. J. Rupert Lecky, of Ballykealey, Tullow, Co. Carlow. He was educated at Elstree, Harrow, and was a member of the Middle Temple. Captain Lecky joined the 7th Battalion Royal Fusiliers in 1896, and on the outbreak of the war he went to the front, attached to the 4th Batt. Royal Fusiliers, in November, 1914. On December 14th he was wounded, and on the 16th obtained his Captaincy. At the beginning of May last he left for the Persian Gulf, was in the battle of Nasayral and was killed in action at the taking of Kut El Amara in September last. Captain Lecky was High Sheriff of Carlow in 1912, and is succeeded to the family estate by his uncle, Col. F. Beauchamp Lecky, D.S.O.
