Information: Major Frederick Thomas Cecil Hill, 6th York and Lancaster Regiment, was the third surviving son of Arthur Manley (late 5th Fusiliers) and Mrs. Hill, Goodameavy House, Yelverton, S. Devon, and grandson of the late General J. T. Hill, 32nd Light Infantry, and of James Arthur Browne, Browne Hall, County Mayo. He joined the Army from Sandhurst in 1895, was promoted Lieutenant in December, 1897, and received his Captaincy in the Middlesex Regiment in 1901. From 1902 until 1911, when he retired, he was employed with the Army Pay Department. On the outbreak of the war he volunteered his services and was appointed Captain in the 6th Service Batt. York and Lancaster Regiment, and was created Major in December, 1914. He left with his Battalion for the Dardanelles in July last and fell whilst gallantly leading his Company in attacking a hill. He was 41 years of age and had married in 1900 Elizabeth, only child of the Comte de Foresta, and leaves one son.
