Information: Second Lieut. Basil Montgomery Coates, 10th Rifle Brigade, was the only son of the late W. Montgomery Coates, M.A. and double gold medallist of Trinity College, Dublin, and Fellow and Bursar of Queen's College, Cambridge and of Mrs. W. Montgomery Coates, of Sheringham, Norfolk. Born at Cambridge on September 16, 1893, he was educated at the Perse School, Cambridge, Oundle School (at both schools he served in the O.T.C.), and Queen's College, Cambridge. On the outbreak of war he was given a commission in the Rifle Brigade, and was killed in France on September 7, 1915
