Information: Major the Hon. Cyril Myles Ponsonby M.V.O., Grenadier Guards, who was killed in France on September 28th, was the second son of the Earl and Countess of Bessborough. Born in 1881, he was educated at Harrow and Sandhurst, and joined the Grenadier Guards in 1900. He served in the South African War, 1902, taking part in the later operations in Cape Colony, and was A.D.C. to the Duke of Connaught from 1907 to 1909. He received his last promotion in May of this year. Major Ponsonby, who lived at 44 Gloucester Square, married, in 1911, Rita Narcissa, eldest daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel M. P. C. Longfield, of Castle Mary, Co. Cork, and leaves one son, born in 1912, Arthur M. L. Ponsonby.
