Information: Second Lieutenant George R. Bennett, 5th Connaught Rangers, was the only son of the late Mr. George W. Bennett, of Miltown-Bruff, Co. Limerick. He was educated at Aravon and at Shrewsbury. He joined the O.T.C., Shrewsbury School Contingent, and trained for three years. At the beginning of the war he enlisted in the King's Shropshire Light Infantry and got his commission m the 6th Connaught Rangers in November, 1914. He was then sent to the 5th Battalion at the Curragh and afterwards to Basingstoke, where he finished his training before going to the Dardanelles, where he fell in action on August 21st.
