Information: Captain L.H.B. McCombie, Uganda Volunteer Reserve, son of Captain McCombie, Laurel Bank, Monkstown, Co. Dublin, was educated at Blackrock College and at King's College, London. He adopted a seafaring life and on his first voyage he and the crew of the vessel were cast away on the Meldivas Islands in the Indian Ocean for three months. On the outbreak of the Boer War he volunteered and served with distinction in the South African Constabulary. About five years ago he was appointed Assistant Commissioner in East Africa, and on the outbreak of the present war he volunteered for active service in the Uganda Volunteer Reserve, and took a very prominent part in crushing the German forces in East Africa, but unfortunately his brilliant career was brought to an end by a stray bullet from a delirious native policeman.
