Information: Second Lieutenant Samuel Spedding John, B.L., 9th Batt. Cheshire Regiment, has been awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry near Festubert on 25th September last. After a retirement to the trenches had been ordered Lieutenant John crawled out under heavy fire and assisted to bring in in succession a wounded officer and about twenty men of another regiment. He continued his heroic work until utterly exhausted. Lieut. John is the son of Mr. A.S. John, Roseville House, Bray, and was called to the Bar in June, 1914.
