Information: Corporal Ernest Yule Gaze, Despatch Rider, Royal Engineers, has had the Medal of St. George, 2nd class, conferred upon him by His Imperial Majesty the Emperor of Russia, for distinguished service in the field. Corporal Gaze is a son of Mrs. Gaze, 22 Elm Grove, Ranelagh, and in a letter to his mother he relates how, having got through safely with his despatches, he returned to relieve a wounded comrade when a shell burst right beside them, inflicting severe injuries on Corporal Gaze and killing his comrade. Corporal Gaze had no fewer than 25 shrapnel wounds. He is at present at home recovering, but has again volunteered for active service in Serbia.
