Information: Captain Herbert Maddick, 5th Royal Irish Lancers, died in St. Thomas's Hospital, London, one hour after his arrival from the Dardanelles, of typhoid contracted whilst on active service there. He joined the Welsh Fusiliers in 1898 and served in the Boer War. In 1903 he became A.D.C. to Sir Augustus Hemming, Governor of Jamaica, and was later on gazetted to the 14th Hussars and served in India. On the outbreak of the present war he took part in the actions of Le Cateau, Mons, Marne and Aisne. He was invalided home in October, 1914, and in July last was appointed Deputy Assistant Quartermaster-General to the British Mediterranean Force. He was the elder son of Mr. George J. Maddick, of Surbiton, Surrey.
