Information: Captain H. Leslie McCarthy, R.A.M.C., recipient of the Military Cross, awarded for gallantry during the great retreat from Mons, is the eldest son of the late Mr. R. Hillgrove McCarthy, J.P., of Woodford House, Listowel, Co. Kerry, one of the old Cork family of McCarthy-Mores. Capt. McCarthy graduated at T.C.D., and took up an appointment and practice in London as a nerve specialist, which position he temporarily resigned to join the Irish Guards when the war began. His two younger brothers are now serving with the British Mediterranean Force in the “Pals'” Battalion of the R.D.F.
