Information: Lieutenant Colonel Gerald Hugh Charles Madden, 1st Batt. Irish Guards, was severely wounded in the fighting near Bethune on October 11th, 1915, from the effects of which he died in hospital in London. Colonel Madden was a brother of Lieutenant-Colonel J. C. W. Madden, D.L., Hilton Park, Clones, now commanding the 4th Batt. Royal Irish Fusiliers, and brother-in-law of Major the Marquis of Ailesbury, D.S.O. He married, in 1901, Mabel Lucy, daughter of the late Sir George McPherson Grant, Bart., of Ballindalloch. Colonel Madden, who was in his 43rd year, formerly served in the 3rd King's Own Hussars, and took part in the South African War with the 16th Lancers.
