Information: Captain John Broadwood Atkinson, 5th Batt. Royal Irish Fusiliers, died in hospital at Alexandria on December 24th, 1915, of enteric fever contracted on active service in Gallipoli. He had just attained his 21st birthday, and was a son of Mr. Joseph Atkinson, D.L., of Crowbill, Armagh, he was educated at Mourne Grange, Co. Down, and Dundle School, Northamptonshire. On the outbreak of the war he offered his services and was gazetted to the 5th Batt. Royal Irish Fusiliers in September, 1914, and took part in the landing at Suvla Bay, where he was wounded.
