Information: Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Elrington Duncan Davidson-Houston D.S.O., 58th Rifles Indian Army, who was returned as “wounded and missing” on the 25th September last, and is now unofficially reported “killed in action” on that date, was the youngest son of the late Rev. P.C. Davidson-Houston, M.A., Vicar of St. John's, Sandymount, Ireland, and Chaplain to the Lord Lieutenant, was born on the 21st January, 1873, and married Constance Isabel Barton, daughter of the late Professor Robert Caeser Childers in 1907. He was educated in England and Germany, and entered the Indian Army in 1893, being promoted Captain in 1902, Major in 1911, and Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel in 1914. During this period he saw much active service. He succeeded to the command of his regiment, the 58th Rifles, Frontier Force, after the death in action on the 31st October, 1914, of the then Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel W. E. Venour. Lieutenant-Colonel Davidson-Houston had commanded his regiment ever since with conspicuous ability, and taking part in several actions. At Givenchy in December, 1914, he gained the D.S.O.
