Information: Major Francis Maxwell Chenevix-Trench, R.F.A., killed in action on October 31st. He was the son of Colonel C. Chenevix-Trench, of Broomfield, Camberley. He was born in September, 1879, and joined the Army in 1898, being gazetted Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery in 1901 and obtaining his Captaincy in May, 1907; He served in South Africa from 1899 to 1901, and took part in the defence of Ladysmith and the various operations in Natal, including the actions at Talana, Lombard's Kop and Laing's Nek. During the war he had two Staff appointments, that of A.D.C. to the Lieutenant-General commanding the Infantry Division and A.D.C. to the Lieutenant-General commanding the 1st Army Corps. He was twice mentioned in despatches and received the Queen's Medal with six clasps. From November of 1907 until December, 1910, he was employed with the Egyptian Army. During-the Sudan Campaign of 1908 he took part in the operations of the Blue Nile Province, receiving the Egyptian Medal. In August of last year he was appointed Brigade-Major, Royal Artillery, 2nd Division, in the Aldershot command.
