Information: Lieutenant Christopher Fowler Murphy, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, who was killed in action on the 20th October at the beginning of the battle of Ypres. He was the younger son of the Rev. Canon and Mrs. R. W. Murphy, Clifden, Co. Galway, and was gazetted in 1908 to the R.F.A. Special Reserve, and the following year was attached to the 35th Battery, Clonmel; in 1910 he obtained a commission in the 1st Batt. of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, and joined the Regiment at Wellington, Madras. In the spring of 1912 he “captained” his regimental team in the contest for the cross-country challenge cup at Bangalore, which they secured, coming in third of his team and 5th of the division.
