Information: Captain A. W. Gates, an old H.M.S. Worcester boy in the P&O service at the beginning of the war, in H.M. hospital ship China. In January, 1915, he received a commission in the 3rd Batt. the South Lancashire Regiment, and in April was attached to the 2nd Batt. in France. He has been wounded three times, and has been mentioned in despatches. He received the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry on the morning of 25th September, 1915, near Hooge.
