Information: Corporal Robert McNicol, 1st Batt. Royal Dublin Fusiliers, second son of Mr. Daniel McNicol, Killycurragh, enlisted as a youth in the Royal Garrison Artillery. After two years in Falmouth his regiment was ordered to Hong Kong, China, where he remained four years. On his return to England he joined the 1st Batt. Royal Dublin Fusiliers, and served with distinction in the Dardanelles, being recommended for the Distinguished Conduct Medal for gallantry in carrying off wounded soldiers under heavy shrapnel fire.
