Information: Second Lieutenant Ronald Fitzmaurice Geary, 21st County of London Regiment (1st Surrey Rifles), was killed by a German sniper in France on January 15th, 1916. Lieutenant Geary joined the Artists' Rifles on the outbreak of the war, and was gazetted to the 1st Surrey Rifles in September, 1914. He went to France in July 1915, and was appointed bombing officer to his battalion. Lieutenant Geary was the son of Mr. J. A. Geary, 43 Crockerton Road, Wandsworth Common, London, and came of an Irish family. He was a nephew of Mr. Richard Gear, of Cork. His Colonel states that had Lieutenant Geary survived his name would have been included in the list of honours for Military Cross.
