Information: Second-Lieutenant W. F. Ellis, 8th Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, has been awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry in endeavouring to rescue an N.C.O. who was mortally wounded whilst assisting Lieutenant Ellis in wiring in front of the trenches. Lieutenant Ellis made several attempts to rescue him, and only desisted when the man was again hit and killed. Lieutenant Ellis is the sixth son of Mr. James T. Ellis, Rathgar. Two other sons served through the Boer War.
