Information: Captain Robert John Smith, Lancashire Fusiliers, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Jigginstown, Naas, was killed in action on May 5th, 1916. Captain Smith was educated at Ranelagh School, Athlone, and Mountjoy School, Dublin, from which he entered Trinity College, where he had a distinguished University career. On the outbreak of the war he volunteered for service and obtained his Commission in the Lancashire Fusiliers in October, 1914, and was given his Captaincy in February, 1915. He went with his regiment to the front in August, 1915
