Information: Lieutenant Robert Lepper Valentine, 7th Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers, who died on 30th April, 1916, from wounds received near Loos, was the youngest son of Mr. W. J. M. Valentine, of 51 Lower Beechwood avenue, Dublin. He received his earlier education at the High School, Dublin, and gained a scholarship in the Royal College of Science for Ireland, where he devoted himself especially to natural history and geology. He gained by competition the post of Geologist on the Geological Survey of Ireland, and completed the qualifying Civil Service examination while actually in military training.
