Information: Lieutenant Francis Patrick Mapletoft Leonard, son of Francis Mapletoft Leonard, late Chief Clerk of H.M. Customs, Belfast, and grandson of the Rev. F. Burford Leonard, was born in the year 1889. He was educated in Belfast and at Ellesmere College, Shropshire. He served his apprenticeship as an engineer at Messrs. Combe Barbour's, Belfast, and during that time matriculated at London University. On the outbreak of the war he joined the University and Public Schoolboys' Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers, but immediately afterwards received a Commission in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He accompanied his regiment to the front in February last, and died in action on April 29th.
