Information: Captain Samuel William Howard, 1st Batt. Connaught Rangers, has been awarded the D.S.O. He is the second son of Major R. J. Howard and Mrs. Howard, Annaguinea House, Dungannon, and nephew of Mr. Samuel Howard, “Ardavon”, Rathgar. Educated at the Royal School, Dungannon, he entered Sandhurst in 1909. After he received his Commission in the Connaughts, he proceeded to India with his regiment. Three years ago he was seconded to the Southern Nigeria Regiment and saw service in the Cameroons at the outbreak of the war, after which he was invalided home. A few months later he rejoined the Connaughts, and after a long spell of service in France he joined the relief force in Mesopotamia, where he was slightly wounded.
