Information: Second Lieutenant George Malcolm Steward McAlister, is the second son of Captain D. A. McAlister, Shropshire Royal Horse Artillery, and Mrs. McAlister, St. Mary's Court, Shrewsbury, and a grandson of the late Mr. Archibald McAlister, of Cushendall, Co. Antrim, who was for many years land agent to Mr. Mitchell Henry, Kylemore, Co. Galway, including the troubled time of the early eighties. He was educated for the Civil Service, and on the outbreak of the war applied for and obtained permission from the head of his department to enlist. He joined the Army Veterinary Corps, T.F., and after seven months' service was promoted to a Commission as Second Lieutenant in the 20th (Service) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (The 3rd Tyneside Irish). He accompanied his Battalion to France, and was mentioned in Routine Orders of the First Army last month for an “act of courage”, for which he will most probably be awarded the Albert Medal in due course, His elder brother is also a Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion Cheshire Regiment, to which he was promoted last July from Sergeant in the 11th (P.A.O.) Hussars for “service in the field”.
